New Church dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, Montegrosso d’Asti (AT)
Created on commission for the new Church of Montegrosso d’Asti. The artwork was preceded by a preparatory drawing (scale 1:1) and a sketch of the actions relative to the 14 stations: from there the narration begins, inviting the viewer to stop and reflect on both natural and environmental catastrophes, and on the various human upheavals in cultural, economic, political and religious spheres that have surfaced in our era.
“When an artist like Avalle creates a piece for the Church, he does so in a dynamic way, living the dialogue between secular thinking and Christian thinking (…) trying to weave this wisdom into the story of the experience of human beings on earth (…) and it is this necessity to create a precise link between past and present that in the 14 stations we find many metaphorical elements of yesterday and today: …Pontius Pilate in the guise of a mime (…) malnourished children (…) an airplane that plummets into the side of a building, a demolished car; and, in the end, Jesus who incarnates a human brain.” (Marisa Vescovo, Introduction to the catalog “Via Crucis 2002-2005”)
